It seats into the chassis assembly it was cataloged for, holding the rotating member on a true axis so it turns smoothly rather than binding or wandering.

A bearing wears at its rolling contact under continuous load, and a worn one gives itself away as play, noise, or drag in the joint it supports. Left in service, that play spreads into the shaft and housing around it and turns a simple bearing replacement into a larger repair, so a bearing showing those symptoms is worth changing promptly.

Match the bore and outside diameter to the shaft and housing the bearing replaces, since a bearing correct in type but wrong in size either will not seat on the shaft or will spin in its bore instead of holding the mating part on axis.
