Sized to sleeve a pin or shaft, a bushing gives the joint a smooth, sacrificial surface to turn or slide against, taking the wear that would otherwise fall on the more expensive parts it separates. Once it opens up past its bore, the connection knocks and loosens until this new bushing restores the fit and takes the play back out.
