Giving the lower steering linkage a hardened, precision-ground surface to pivot on, this Hyster shaft serves the lower linkage and steering axle assembly of the lift truck, where it translates steering input into steered-wheel movement. It is the bearing journal the linkage rotates around, so its surface finish and dimensional accuracy set how tightly the steering holds.

Machined from medium carbon steel, the shaft is built for strength at the loaded bearing surfaces that take side load and repeated rotation through every turn of the truck. As those surfaces wear, steering develops play and the linkage loosens, the point at which the shaft is replaced to bring the steering geometry back to specification.

Match the overall length, shaft diameter, and the bearing and retaining features at each end against the shaft being replaced, since these locate the shaft in its bores and a mismatch in any one will not seat correctly.
