Seated in a machined groove, this Crown retaining ring holds a bearing or shaft in place against axial movement, taking the thrust load that would otherwise let the assembly slide apart. It fits Crown lift trucks, dropping into the groove cut for it and springing against the groove wall to form a removable shoulder.
A retaining ring is replaced when it loses spring tension, deforms, or is damaged during service and no longer seats fully in its groove, since a ring that does not seat cannot hold the axial load it is there for.
Match the ring to the groove diameter and the shaft or bore it seats in, since retaining rings are sized to a specific groove and will not hold in one cut for a different diameter.
