This external E-style retaining ring seats in a shaft groove on lift trucks to axially locate and hold a bearing or component. That shoulder keeps the retained part from sliding along the shaft under load and vibration, holding the assembly together without a threaded fastener.
Stamped from spring steel, the ring relies on its spring tension to grip the groove, and it is replaced whenever it is removed for service or when it has lost tension and no longer seats fully. A ring that no longer springs tight can walk out of its groove and let the part it retains shift.
Match the ring to the shaft groove diameter and groove width so it seats fully and holds. Forklifts Etc. carries it as the external retaining ring.
