Retaining Ring – W-227-I

Seated in a groove machined inside a bore, this internal retaining ring springs outward to form a shoulder that axially locates and holds a bearing or component inside its housing on lift trucks. That shoulder keeps the retained part from sliding out of the bore under the load and vibration of normal operation, doing the job with spring tension alone and no threads.

An internal ring is a service-replace item. Once it has been sprung out of its groove for service, or once it no longer holds its tension, it is replaced rather than reused, because a ring that has lost its grip can work out of the groove and let the assembly it retains shift or come apart.

Match the ring to the bore's groove diameter and thickness and confirm it is the internal, bore-seating type rather than an external shaft ring, since only the correct size and style will seat and hold. Forklifts Etc. supplies it as the internal retaining ring for this application.
