Rollers carry the contact load in an assembly that has to move freely, taking the wear that sliding contact would otherwise put on the parts around them.
A roller that has worn flat, seized on its shaft, or developed play no longer rolls true. It starts to drag, and that drag accelerates wear on whatever surface it runs against, so a rough or noisy roller is replaced before it damages its mating parts.
Match the outside diameter and the bore to the original, since the outside diameter sets the height the roller rides at and the bore has to fit its shaft closely enough to run true without wobble.
