Standoff – SCR-2748

A standoff holds a fixed gap between two mounted surfaces, using a threaded or through-bore body to space one component off another while giving fasteners something solid to land in. It keeps a board, panel, or plate at a set distance so parts clear one another and wiring or airflow has the room it needs to route past.

In an assembly, a standoff carries the mounting load that would otherwise stress the panel or the component directly, holding the spacing steady as the joint is torqued and as the equipment vibrates in service. Length, thread, and diameter are the three dimensions that define it, since together they set the gap it holds and the fasteners it accepts.

When replacing one, match the length, thread size, and diameter to the standoff coming out so the spacing and the threads carry over exactly. A standoff right in diameter but wrong in thread pitch will not accept the original fasteners.
