This Raymond handle is the operator control the driver grips to command the truck, carrying the switches and grip surface through which travel, lift, and function inputs are made. As the primary point of contact between operator and machine, it takes constant handling every shift.

That use wears the grip, the switches, and the internal connections over time, until buttons stop responding, contacts grow intermittent, or the handle loosens on its mount.
