Heavy current flows through this contactor whenever the control system energizes the drive and function circuits on a Raymond electric lift truck, closing a set of power contacts to pass battery current to the motors and opening them to break the circuit cleanly. As an electrically operated power switch, it carries the high amperage loads a simple relay could not, isolating the truck's control logic from the raw motor current it commands.

Repeated switching under load is what wears a contactor. Every make and break draws an arc across the contact tips, and over thousands of cycles that arcing erodes the surfaces while the coil weakens, showing up as sluggish actuation, chatter, or intermittent power to the drive. A sound replacement restores crisp, positive switching and protects downstream components from the voltage drop and heat that degraded contacts produce.

Match the coil voltage and the contact rating to the circuit it controls, since a contactor correct in physical size but wrong in coil voltage will not pull in reliably.
