A cable reaches the end of its life when the conductor, the insulation, or the end terminals give out from heat, repeated flexing, abrasion, or corrosion. A compromised cable drops voltage across its length, opens the circuit, or shorts to what it touches, and any of those upsets the system it feeds. Replacing it with the correct made-to-fit cable clears that fault and returns solid continuity to the run.
