An encoder reports rotational position and speed to the truck's controller, generating the electrical pulses the drive or steer system reads to know where a shaft is and how fast it turns. That feedback lets an electric drive commutate smoothly, hold speed under changing load, and steer to a commanded position. Raymond uses this encoder as the position sensor in that loop.
An encoder reports rotational position and speed back to the truck's controller, generating the electrical pulses the drive or steer system reads to know exactly where a shaft is and how fast it is turning. That feedback is what lets an electric drive commutate smoothly, hold speed under changing load, and steer to a commanded position.
Raymond uses this encoder as the position sensor in that feedback loop, mounted to the shaft it reads. When an encoder fails or drifts, the symptoms show up as erratic drive or steer behavior, faults logged by the controller, or a function that no longer responds smoothly, since the controller is acting on a signal it can no longer trust. Sold as a replacement for the failed sensor, it restores the feedback the control system depends on. Match the encoder to the shaft mounting and pulse count the controller expects, since these govern how it reads.
