Encoder Traction – CR21711

Converting drive-motor shaft rotation into precise electronic signals, this traction encoder feeds speed and position data from the motor back to the control system of a Crown electric lift truck. The controller reads that feedback continuously and uses it to regulate acceleration, travel speed, and directional response, holding propulsion smooth and accurate as the load on the truck changes through a shift.

Because the drive electronics steer the motor from what the encoder reports, the encoder's signal is what the whole traction loop is calibrated against. A unit that drifts or drops its signal robs the controller of the feedback it needs, which surfaces as erratic acceleration, uneven speed, or fault codes in the drive system. A sound encoder maintains the calibration the propulsion control depends on for consistent, repeatable movement.

Match the encoder to the Crown model and the specific traction motor it mounts to, since the mounting interface and signal count vary by drive motor and the controller expects the resolution the original encoder produced.
