When the controller sends current, the winding generates a magnetic field that pulls the valve's plunger or spool into position, directing fluid flow to whichever function the circuit controls, whether lift, tilt, or an auxiliary attachment.

The coil does the switching, not the pumping; it slides over the valve's stationary core and is held by a retaining nut or clip, so it can be swapped without opening the valve body or disturbing the internal spool. That makes coil replacement one of the simpler hydraulic repairs when a function stops responding.

Solenoid coils typically fail from winding burnout after prolonged energization, insulation breakdown from heat cycling, or a cracked housing from vibration, and a failed coil usually shows as a hydraulic function that will not engage at all rather than one that responds sluggishly.
