Converting pump pressure into the vertical force that raises the mast and forks, this hydraulic lift cylinder extends under oil pressure to lift the load and retracts as the control valve returns oil to tank. The cylinder is a primary working component of the lift circuit, and its condition governs whether the mast raises smoothly and holds height without drifting down. Internal seal wear is the usual failure, showing up as slow settling under load, sluggish or jerky lift, or oil weeping past the rod seal at the gland. Replacing a worn cylinder restores full lift capacity and eliminates the drift that comes from fluid bypassing tired seals. Match the bore, stroke, rod diameter, and the port and mount arrangement to the cylinder being replaced, since lift cylinders are built specifically to the mast they were designed into.
