Metering oil from the pump to the steering cylinder in proportion to how far the operator turns the wheel, this Crown orbitrol is the hydraulic steering control unit at the heart of a lift truck's steering circuit. It combines a rotary spool valve with a gerotor metering section, so the road wheels track the steering wheel smoothly and predictably at low effort even with a loaded truck.

When steering feels loose, wanders, or demands excessive input, a worn orbitrol is a common cause, because internal wear lets oil slip past the metering element instead of driving the cylinder. Replacing the unit restores accurate, responsive steering and proper oil metering through the circuit.

The orbitrol mounts at the steering column and ties into the pump feed, cylinder, and return lines through its port face. Match the replacement to the original by its displacement rating and port arrangement, since units of the same outward form differ in metering volume and plumbing, and the wrong one will steer too fast, too slow, or fail to seal to the existing lines.
