The coil is the electromagnetic half of a hydraulic solenoid valve, and this Raymond unit converts an electrical signal into the magnetic force that shifts the valve spool to start, stop, or redirect hydraulic flow. Energize the coil and the valve actuates; de-energize it and the valve returns, which is how a lift truck's controls command functions like lift, lower, and auxiliary hydraulics electrically rather than by hand.

Coils fail electrically: the winding can short, open, or overheat, at which point the valve stops responding to its signal even though the hydraulics themselves are sound, and swapping the coil restores control without opening the valve body. Made by Raymond as an original component, it matches the connector and bore of the solenoid valve it drives. When replacing it, confirm the coil voltage matches the truck's control circuit, since a coil wound for a different voltage will not actuate reliably.
