The tie rod is a core link in the steer axle of a Crown lift truck, connecting the steering components to the wheels and carrying the motion that turns them together. As the steering unit moves, the tie rod pushes and pulls to set the wheel angle, so its straightness and the soundness of its end joints decide whether the truck steers accurately and tracks evenly.

Built to carry steering loads through constant direction changes, the rod and its joints wear, bend, or develop play over service, which shows up as loose, wandering steering and uneven tire wear.
