On a Raymond lift truck, this switch is the control point that opens or closes an electrical circuit on demand, energizing or interrupting current to the function it governs. Raymond specifies it as the direct replacement for a switch that has stuck, arced, or stopped making contact, the failure that leaves a circuit dead or locked on.

Switch contacts degrade in a predictable way under repeated actuation. The metal faces pit and carbon builds where the contact makes and breaks, until the switch chatters, passes current intermittently, or welds shut and the circuit it feeds behaves erratically or quits altogether. Installing a fresh switch restores a clean, defined make and break so the controlled function responds the way it should.

Switches that share a mounting footprint can differ in the number of poles they carry and in their switching action, so match the terminal layout and the make and break behavior of the switch coming out. Those two details determine whether the replacement wires in the same way and controls the same circuit as the original.
