Proximity sensors give a lift truck's control system a way to detect position or presence without physical contact, typically by sensing a metal target passing within range of the sensor face. Crown uses sensors like this one throughout its electric lift truck line to confirm things a mechanical switch would wear out doing, mast height or tilt position, a component reaching its travel limit, or a guard or interlock being in place before a function is allowed to run.

Because the sensor never physically touches the target it reads, it avoids the wear that eventually kills a contact switch doing the same job, giving it a longer service life in a role that gets triggered on every cycle of the function it monitors. At 2 pounds, it is a compact unit sized to mount close to the target it senses.

A failing proximity sensor typically shows up as a function that stops responding, behaves inconsistently, or throws a fault code on the truck's display, since the controller depends on a clean signal from the sensor to know the position it is tracking. Replacing it restores accurate position feedback to the circuit it serves on Crown equipment.
