Encoder Bearing – SBG-10

An encoder bearing combines a rolling bearing with a built-in encoder, supporting the motor shaft while reading its rotation at the same point, so the drive controller gets speed and position feedback directly from the bearing that carries the shaft. Integrating the sensor into the bearing keeps the pickup aligned with the shaft it measures and saves the separate mounting a standalone encoder needs.

Two failure modes live in one part here. The bearing wears like any bearing, growing noisy or rough as the races and elements degrade, while the encoder element can drift or drop pulses, either of which shows up as erratic motor speed control or fault codes at the controller. Replacing the unit renews both the support and the feedback together.

Match the encoder bearing by its bore and outer diameter, its pulse count, and its connector against the unit it replaces, since one wrong in bore will not seat and one wrong in resolution will feed the controller a signal it cannot read correctly.
