Cable protection sleeves shield a wiring run from the abrasion, pinching, and cutting that raw insulation alone cannot survive where a cable passes through a frame opening, over an edge, or through a spot exposed to contact with other components. Crown specifies this piece for that job on its electric lift truck line, wrapping or lining a section of cable at the point where it is most exposed to wear.

Unprotected insulation that rubs against metal or gets pinched at a routing point eventually wears through, exposing the conductor underneath and creating a short or an open circuit right at that failure point. A cable protection piece like this one is a small, inexpensive way to prevent that failure before it happens, rather than repairing or replacing the cable itself after the insulation gives out.
