Pressure builds inside any sealed housing as the fluid within heats, cools, and moves with use, and this Raymond breather gives that pressure a controlled path to equalize instead of forcing its way past a seal. A filter element inside the breather screens dust, dirt, and airborne moisture out of the air drawn back in, so the compartment vents without pulling contamination into the oil.

Raymond fits this breather to a gearbox, hydraulic reservoir, or similar enclosed compartment on its lift trucks. When a breather plugs with debris or goes missing, pressure has nowhere to go: it pushes oil past shaft seals and gaskets, or it draws grit and water straight into the fluid as the housing cools. Either failure shortens the life of the components running in that oil, which is why a clogged breather often shows up first as a weeping seal rather than as a venting problem.

A fresh breather restores clean, low-resistance venting to the compartment. Match the thread size and mounting style to the breather being removed, since the replacement has to thread into the same port and seat the same way to seal correctly.
