This Yale cotter pin is a split retaining pin that locks a castle nut, clevis, or pinned joint on Yale lift trucks. It slides through a drilled hole and its legs bend back to keep a fastener or pin from backing out under vibration. A cotter pin is a single-use fastener. Once it is bent and removed it loses its grip and is replaced with a fresh pin on reassembly.
