The Yale electromagnetic brake is a 12/24-volt electric brake specifically designed for Yale electric reach trucks. It is a spring-applied, electrically released holding brake: the spring clamps the brake to hold the truck whenever power is off, and energizing the coil releases it so the drive can turn. That fail-safe action makes it the truck's parking and emergency brake, setting automatically the moment power is cut.
The brake wears through its friction surface and depends on its coil to release. As the friction material wears, holding force falls off and the brake can slip or set slowly, while a weak or failing coil may not release cleanly and leaves the brake dragging. Either condition calls for replacement so the reach truck holds and releases as designed.
