AC induction steering motor for Yale lift trucks, driving the power-steering system. As a brushless AC motor its bearings and windings are the wear items, and it is rebuilt or replaced when the bearings rumble, the insulation breaks down, or it overheats or trips on a fault.
The Yale steer motor actuator is a 36-volt DC electric motor that powers the steering on Yale electric lift trucks. On an electronic power-steer truck this motor drives the steer mechanism in response to the control system, turning the steered wheel so the operator steers by command rather than by a direct mechanical link. It runs on the truck's 36-volt DC supply.
The steer motor is an electromechanical part that wears at its brushes and bearings and can fail in its windings. A failing steer motor shows up as heavy, erratic, or unresponsive steering, or a steer fault that pulls the truck out of service, since accurate powered steering depends on the motor answering the controller cleanly. Replacing it restores full power steering.
Forklifts Etc. carries it as the replacement 36-volt steer motor actuator for the Yale application.
