Once a wear plate thins or grooves out, the component it protects starts taking the wear directly, which is the point to replace it rather than let the damage move to a harder part to repair. Match the plate's thickness and its bolt or mount pattern to the one coming off, since the plate has to sit at the right height and fasten to the existing points.
