The Yale brake cable is the actuating cable that carries pedal or lever force to the brake mechanism on Yale lift trucks. The cable is the mechanical link between the operator's brake input and the brake at the wheel end, pulling against the brake actuation so the truck slows or holds when the brake is applied.

Because it is a moving, load-bearing cable routed through the chassis, it wears where it flexes and where it slides in its housing. Over service life the inner cable frays, the housing binds, or the cable stretches, any of which softens brake feel or leaves the brake slow to release or dragging. A brake cable that no longer pulls cleanly changes stopping distance and holding force, which is why it is replaced rather than adjusted once worn.
