Crown builds this electromagnetic brake assembly for its electric lift truck line, where it delivers the powered braking and parking hold the truck relies on to stop and stay put. At about 5 pounds, it is a self-contained unit that mounts into the drivetrain and engages through the truck's electrical system rather than a hydraulic circuit.

An electromagnetic brake of this design sets and releases as current is applied and removed, which makes it both the working brake and the fail-safe hold when the truck is powered down. As the friction faces and internal components wear, the brake grows slower to set and its holding force falls off, the signal that the assembly has reached replacement.
