Transfers steering motion across the steer axle, tying the steering linkage to the wheel-end knuckle arm so operator input at the wheel turns the axle. As a front link, it forms part of the tie rod and drag link assembly on the rear steer axle, working with the tie rod and knuckle arms to hold correct toe and turning geometry through the axle's full lock-to-lock travel. The link carries the loads and vibration of tight, repeated turns in tow, so worn ball ends or a bent link produce loose steering, wander, and uneven tire wear.
