Bushing – BS-1092

A bushing works as a plain sleeve bearing, giving a pivot or a moving joint a hardened, low-friction surface to turn against so the mating parts wear the bushing instead of themselves. Pressed into a bore, it carries the load between a shaft and its housing at points like linkage pivots, wheel mounts, and steering joints, where it takes constant motion and shock.

As the bore wears oversize the joint develops play, and that slop is the signal to replace the bushing before the surrounding parts begin to wear. Bushings are sized to a specific inside diameter, outside diameter, and length, so measure those three against the one coming out to be sure the replacement presses in square and fits the shaft it carries.
