Bushing – BS-1201

A bushing serves as a replaceable wear surface between a moving part and its mount, taking the friction and load so the costlier component it rides in does not wear directly. This bushing presses into its bore and gives a shaft, pin, or linkage a smooth bearing surface, and it is renewed once clearance opens up and the joint develops play.

A worn bushing shows as slop in a linkage or pivot, and swapping it restores the tight fit the assembly needs to locate parts accurately under load. Because it is a low-cost part protecting an expensive one, it is treated as a routine service item. Match the inner diameter, outer diameter, and length to the bushing coming out, since a press-fit bushing has to seat tightly in its bore and carry the correct shaft size.
