Pressed over a wheel hub or spindle end on a Crown lift truck, this grease cap seals the bearing cavity, holding lubricant in against the hub while keeping dirt, water, and debris out of the bearing. That seal is what lets a packed wheel bearing run its full service life instead of drying out or grinding on contamination.
A grease cap can loosen, dent, or corrode over time, and once it no longer seats tightly the bearing loses its protection and begins to collect the grit that shortens bearing life. Replacing a damaged cap restores the sealed cavity and protects the bearing underneath it.
At about 0.3 pounds it is an inexpensive Crown replacement part. Match the cap's outside diameter to the hub bore it presses into, since the cap seals only when it fits the bore snugly.
