Seating under a fastener on Raymond lift trucks, this Raymond washer spreads a bolt or nut's clamping force across a wider area than the fastener head alone, protecting the joint face as the connection is torqued. It sits between the nut or bolt head and the mounting surface, distributing the load so the material underneath is not crushed or marked by the fastener.

The flat bearing surface also lets the fastener rotate cleanly during installation and covers a slightly oversized clearance hole. A washer is replaced when it is dished, cracked, or corroded, since a deformed washer no longer spreads load evenly and can let the joint loosen. Match the bore and outside diameter to the fastener it backs up so it seats squarely and covers the hole.
