Seated in a machined groove on a shaft or in a bore, this retaining ring locks a bearing, gear, or similar component against axial movement under load. It installs and removes with standard ring pliers, which makes it a routine item to renew during a teardown rather than a part that wears on its own.
Seated in a machined groove on a shaft or in a bore, this retaining ring locks a bearing, gear, or similar component against axial movement, holding it in place so it cannot slide along its axis under load. Sprung steel lets it flex over the shaft or into the bore during installation and then snap back into its groove, where its shoulder does the retaining work.
It installs and removes with standard ring pliers, which makes it a routine item to renew during a teardown rather than a part that wears on its own. A ring that has lost its spring or spread out of round no longer seats fully and should be replaced instead of reused.
Match the ring to the groove diameter and to the shaft or bore size it seats in, since a ring that does not seat fully in its groove will not hold the component it is meant to retain.
