Position feedback from an operator control reaches the truck's electronics through this potentiometer, which converts the movement of a lever or pedal into a proportional electrical signal. As the control travels, a wiper sweeps across a resistive track and varies resistance, so the drive or hydraulic system reads how much demand the operator is asking for and responds in proportion. That proportional output is what gives a lift truck smooth, predictable acceleration and lift response rather than abrupt on-off behavior.

Because the wiper stays in constant mechanical contact with the resistive element, the track wears at the positions used most, and that wear is the common cause of erratic response, dropouts, or a control that no longer tracks smoothly through its range. A fresh potentiometer restores clean, repeatable signal output across the full sweep of the control.

It installs in the lift truck control circuit in place of the worn unit it replaces, returning accurate command of the drive or hydraulic function it governs.
