Load wheel shafts take direct load every time the truck moves under a palletized weight, since the shaft is what the wheel rotates on and what transfers that weight into the fork or chassis structure. Raymond builds this one at 6 inches long with a 1 inch cross-section for load wheel positions on its walkie and reach trucks.

Wear concentrates where the wheel bearing or bushing rides against the shaft surface. Enough material loss at that contact point lets the wheel develop play, which then accelerates wear on the bearing itself and eventually shows as a wheel that wobbles under load.

That progression is worth catching early, since a worn shaft will chew through a new bearing quickly if the bearing alone gets replaced.
