This master link joins the two ends of a Crown lift truck's mast lifting chain into a continuous loop. Because the chain runs under constant tension as the mast cycles, the link sees repeated flex at its connection points and commonly shows wear before the rest of the chain does.
Roller chain on a lift truck mast runs under constant tension and cyclic load as the mast raises and lowers, and the master link is where that chain opens and closes. Crown builds this one to its specification for mast and lifting chain applications, rated to lift truck mast service grade rather than the lighter general-purpose rating a conveyor or transmission chain carries.
That duty concentrates stress at the link's connection points, which is why the master link commonly shows wear, elongation, or fatigue before the rest of the chain does. It is frequently replaced on its own rather than only as part of a full chain swap.
Chain pitch, the center-to-center spacing between roller pins, is the specification that determines whether a link fits. Pitch varies across chain sizes, and a mismatched link will not seat or run correctly even when it looks similar to the one coming off.
Matching pitch against the chain being serviced is what confirms the correct link, rather than working from truck brand alone.
