Chain anchors hold the fixed end of a lift chain where it terminates at the mast or carriage, taking the full tension of the load as the forks rise and fall. This Raymond chain anchor is the anchoring hardware for the roller chain in the upright, the point where a leaf or roller chain is pinned so it can run over its sheave and carry the carriage. On a lift truck the chains cycle under load through every raise and lower, so the anchor and its pin see constant tension and are among the components inspected when chain stretch or wear turns up in the mast.

Anchors are matched to the chain size and the mast they serve, so the pitch and pin diameter of the chain already on the truck govern which anchor is correct. Replacing a worn or corroded anchor at the same time as the chain keeps the lift system running as a matched set rather than pairing new chain to fatigued anchoring hardware.
