Machined to Crown Equipment's specification for its lift truck platforms, this shaft transmits rotational force or supports a rotating component within an assembly, turned to a precise diameter and length so the bearings, gears, or couplings that ride on it seat accurately. Those close tolerances are what keep the mating parts concentric and correctly located as the shaft turns under load.

A shaft in this position carries torque and, depending on where it sits, bending load from the components mounted to it, so wear at a bearing journal or in the keyway gradually introduces play that transfers into everything the shaft supports. A journal that has developed scoring, wear grooves, or out-of-round wear should be replaced before that play accelerates damage to the bearings and adjacent parts riding on it.
