A skirt seals the working edge of a sweeper or scrubber against the floor, containing the dust, debris, or water the machine is picking up so it stays inside the cleaning path instead of escaping back onto the finished surface. This flexible skirt rides close to the floor around the brush or squeegee area, and its contact edge is what keeps the machine's suction and sweeping effective.

Skirts wear at that contact edge, tear, or stiffen with age, and a skirt that no longer seals lets debris and moisture slip past, which shows up as streaking or dust trailing behind the machine. Replacing it restores a clean seal to the deck. Match the skirt length and mounting to the one being replaced, since a skirt is cut to the specific machine's deck and must sit at the right height to seal.
