It mounts by hydraulic press to an interference fit on the wheel, seating the steel band tight so the tire runs true under load without fasteners.

Polyurethane is chosen for press-on duty because it carries heavy static and rolling loads with low rolling resistance and resists the cutting and chunking that shortens a tire's life on hard indoor floors. As the poly wears down, chunks, or debonds from the band, ride and load capacity fall off and the tire needs pressing off and replacing.
