Motor brushes transfer current from an electric motor's stationary terminals to its rotating commutator, and this set replaces the group as a matched batch rather than one worn brush at a time. Each brush is a graphite block that slides against the commutator under spring load, carrying the working current across the copper as the armature turns.

Brushes are the wearing part of a brushed motor by design, shortening steadily through normal running until contact pressure drops and the motor starts to arc, spark, or lose power under load. Replacing the full set keeps every brush at equal length and even pressure around the commutator, which a mix of new and part-worn blocks cannot do. When installing, match the footprint and thickness of each brush to the ones coming out, since a block sized even slightly large will bind in its holder.
